Thin fingers skimmed over the spines of books, never lingering on one for too long. Toris really couldn’t believe that he had the time for this now. It seemed like a miracle, that they had all just magically had woken up in Tokyo, in this odd boarding school. And by they, he meant all the countries of the world, himself included. Of course it seemed like a recipe for disaster but… Thus far, the former country of Lithuania couldn’t see much of a problem. Possibly because he had ducked into the sanctuary of the library in order to make sure he didn’t run into any familiar and preferably avoided faces, but that was all beside the point. Now they all had a chance to sort of relax, get to know each other on a personal level, not just as nations. They could put history and the events of the past behind them and start anew. For the most part, at least.
The very best part? No piles of demanding paperwork, or bosses to bark orders back and forth. Toris finally had a minute to enjoy himself. There would be school work. That was to be expected at a boarding school right? But it wouldn’t have the weight of trade agreements or alliances or or… Toris stomach interrupted with a pained growl. Just thinking back on everything was starting to give him bad pains again. No, this was certainly a welcome break. But how it happened was a different matter entirely. He sighed and focused on the books again. C in the fiction section. His finger moved over the golden cursive of one tall, but thin book. Lewis Carroll. It made as much sense as anything else going on right now. He hesitated. There were probably better things to do, or even better books to look at. Carroll was a little silly.
But he had plenty of time now, right?
Against better judgment perhaps, Toris tugged the book out from where it was firmly wedged between two others and flipped it open. He glanced about. It didn’t seem like there were too many people around so it couldn’t be a problem if he just stood here and read. And he wouldn’t necessarily be reading the thing. Just flipping through it, while he figured out what to do. He looked up at the shelf again and quickly spotted another name. He hesitated before taking that one two. It couldn’t hurt at all, he convinced himself. Ten minutes later, Toris had managed to make himself a small corner in the library, with a few walls of books for protection. It wasn’t as if he was looking for particular countries anyways.
