The American's smile faded. Oh, he seemed mad, really mad. Alfred bit his lip as he quietly waited for the Italian's shouts to end. Normally he wouldn't feel so bad, but he did seem really ticked off. And.. was he crying? 'Talk about a guilt trip?' he thought quietly. He wished he had brought a tomato or something, to just make up stop talking; not in a bad way though, just because it was weird to hear all the shouting, and people were staring! Bastard bastard bastard.. Yea yea. Didn't he cuss enough already? Alfred frowned slightly as his disposition though; did he freak him out that bad?
He sighed, offering a smile and ruffling Lovino's hair.
"Hey hey, calm down, it's okay. At least it wasn't some weirdo mugger or something? Even if it was, I would have saved you!" Of course, the superhero always comes at just the right moment to save the distressed maiden, er, Italian. A hug would have been necessary in the situation, but, Al wasn't the hugging type, and he didn't want to get pushed into the subway.
"Uhm.. But sorry though. Didn't know I scared ya that bad," he chuckled lightly, even though he knew that might further irk Lovino. He tilted his head to one side and sighed. "'Cause, I'm starved! I didn't eat before I came here! Hope you saved room for dinner?" Ah, dinner. The American couldn't wait to sit down and eat a hamburger, and ma- wait. "Oh, next time?" His smile grew slightly. "If ya want, we can talk about that when we get there." His tone changed to one more serious. "Nn.. But sure, I'll try and be on time. Got caught up in hero traffic?" A lame excuse, and he knew it, but what was the harm in playing around to try and lighten the mood? "Orrrr maybe you should try and be late more?"
The subway finally came, and Alfred quickly ushered Lovino into it, impatient to get to the diner already and have a meal. Dinner was an important part of the day too! One couldn't just be late for it.
